Autonoma is an exchange program that aims to stimulate ideas and connections, nurturing passion in the field of glass making.
For Autonoma PILOT program, two students from the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, USA, spent three weeks collaborating with six furnaces specializing in different Murano glassmaking techniques. The participants worked side-by-side with the maestri, taking inspiration from their different styles while learning and honing their craft.
Autonoma LIGHT ON brought six students from the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, USA, to the island of Murano for a two-week program focused on reinterpreting the classic Rezzonico Chandeliers. Assisted by glass maestro and fornace owner Carlo Pitau, the artists teamed up to produce three chandelier prototypes. Their work was showcased at the Museo del Vetro glass museum during Venice Glass Week.
Autonoma BUILD-UP brought students from the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, USA, to the island of Murano for a three-week program. They created a site-specific collective installation for the garden at Venice’s Museo del Vetro glass museum using as many recycled or found glass pieces as possible. Aiming to communicate the need for greater sustainability in glass production, the piece was exhibited at Venice Glass Week and received a special mention in the first edition of the Bonham Prize.
