AUTONOMA

An exchange program in collaboration with Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, USA.

PILOT

For the first edition of the program, two students selected by the Pilchuck Glass School spent three weeks collaborating with six furnaces specialized in different Murano glassmaking techniques. The participants had the chance to work closely with the maestri, taking inspiration from their different styles while deepening their skills.

LIGHT ON

In the 2018 edition of the program, six students selected by Pilchuck Glass School spent two weeks on the island of Murano with the aim to reinterpret the classic Rezzonico Chandelier.

With the support of glass maestro and furnace owner Carlo Pitau, the artists teamed up to produce three prototypes. Their work was then displayed at the Museo del Vetro during Venice Glass Week.

BUILD-UP

In 2019, we brought a group of students selected by the Pilchuck Glass School to the island of Murano for a three-week program. The participants were tasked with the creation of a site-specific group installation for the garden of Venice’s Museo del Vetro using as many recycled or found pieces of glass as possible.

Exhibited at Venice Glass Week, the piece denounced the need for better sustainability practices in glass production and it received a special mention in the first edition of the Bonham Prize.
